So I've pretty much learned what a true friend is and true friend isn't... the latter are people who one day are your best friend you talk to them, feel comfortable confiding your deepest skeletons and secrets, and then the next day they completely ignore you and just brush you off as if you barely know them. I don't mean the ones who you can confide in and then they barely say anything to you the next day... but the ones who just are best friends one day, and then don't even aknowledge your presence the next... I just feel disposable around this one person, it's not anyone who reads my posts otherwise I wouldn't be writing this lol... it just feels high-schoolish.. I admire people who are open and honest, if you don't want to associate, just say so.. it's a communication technique Adi once taught us, not acknowledging presence is worse than saying something nasty... in the latter you're at least giving the person the time of day.
Thank god Spring Break is two weeks away, Tucson for 8 nights and days... it's going to be a wonderful time.

My favorite quote in a while:
"One of our talmudic Rabbis declared that the world rests on three foundations- justice, truth and peace. Out of the the first, the other two emerge. If we deal justly with other people, truth will triumph and peace will reign" -Rabbi Morris N. Kertzer
I'm enjoying life at the moment, I'm happy in my faith, relationship, friendships, politics, school... not everything is going perfect, but flawed and good keeps things interesting
rock on.

Sometimes things happen that just make me wonder if I've jumped in over my head in some situations, like taking 3 ULTRA-hard courses this semester... just stressing over knowing what I have due within the next 2 weeks, culminating with the GRE on Dec 9, and then back home on Dec 12. I've discovered that I really like West Hartford, yeah I've complained about it before so before you think "Jeremy?!" I mean it's home for me, this is where I grew up, it's the place I feel most comfortable more or less... so I guess you can take Jeremy out of West Hartford, but you can't take the West Hartford out of Jeremy. Sigh... knowing it's back to Charlotte tomorrow, but then I'm back here in about two weeks, for a break of 3 weeks... ironic isn't it... the time between Thanksgiving and Winter Break is shorter than I'll be home for Winter Break.. and then of course it's barely 2 months till Spring Break which will see mom, dad, and I winging out to Tucson... something I'm already looking forward to, and maybe too much:) I don't want to rush the year thinking ahead... but it's my second home, and I can't wait to get back... Yet back to jumping in over my head there's other stuff too... that needn't much detail here lol. Anyway on to the second part of my usual pondering type post... album review! Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3- "Ole! Tarantula". Hitchcock has been making music since the 70s, and was a big folky artist out of London in the 80s. The Venus 3 are none other than Peter Buck guitarist in R.E.M., and Bill Rieflin and Scott McCaughey both are touring members of R.E.M. and are members of the Minus 5. The sound is really cool, they know how to rock out (folky-roots type) but then write some really fun songs like "Belltown Ramble"... looking forward to this one staying in the rotation for a while!
Shalom.

There's some days when I'm so confused, not about anything specifically... just about my place in the community, how people view me, etc... I don't know whether it's just from exhaustion or anything else... it's just something that I was pondering when I was sitting in one of the comfy chairs in front of Jazzman's listening to Army of Anyone on my iPod (an awesome album by the way: Robert and Dean Deleo (formerly of Stone Temple Pilots), Richard Patrick (lead singer in Filter), and Ray Luzier (session drummer who's worked with -of all people- David Lee Roth), eating lunch, and just gazing out across the courtyard. This year's been interesting so far I've grown closer to some people, and more distant from others (not by choice, just differing schedules and lives).. sometimes I wish I can go back to Freshman/Sophomore year and relive the fun/spontaneous times, and not be holed up in my room doing homework as it seems now, perpetually. That's what I miss, the spontenaity of early college life, when one did have free time to just do whatever, and not have 20 meetings, 15 classes, and a job all to balance... all the while keeping in contact with parents, planning for grad school, and planning my future. I guess all I can say is thank god Thanksgiving Break is here... I don't even think I really know how bad my body/mind/soul needs it...
Shalom.

Oh how the meaning changes over time... sitting at my internship looking through a folder of Charlotte city government documents from the 1860s, and I just came across this line "(payment for) 10 days work on hoes"... yeah... we're dirty in 2006.
oh and quickly, Cheap Trick's new album "Rockford" is awesome... get it.

for some reason I'm into updating my online stuff tonight... call it boredom or something... facebook and now this. I have Sugar We're Going Down by Fall Out Boy stuck in my head... although I found the cure to getting a song out of my head is to listen to it, or just go play it on guitar... so maybe i'll do that. this summer's been interesting so far... parties in the know, know... parties not in the know... yeah... I'm being cryptic... because that's what i do:P
Have a great internship up at the Charlotte Museum of History, which is understandably overshadowed by the Levine Museum of the New South; but my museum is a great place. Basically they've had too many donations and not enough people to look through the stuff, so my job is to help with donations being cataloged, described, and prepped to be put in exhibits if need be... most people would probably find what I'm doing really boring, but a lot of the donations are politically related, and it's history... I really lucked out with it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I want it to be my job lol. Been looking at grad schools lately, have some prospectives... really excited because Arizona State in Phoenix has a history program with a political focus... it's my fav state, and what I have to Master in... so it's my top pick right now.
Had a strange musically related dream last night, i was at a Third Eye Blind concert, but they were playing DOA by the Foo Fighters.
Off to get this damn Fall Out Boy song out of my head.
rock on.

So in my last entry I was talking about the new Goo Goo Dolls and Pearl Jam albums... but I've got a 3rd album thats getting me through finals... The Raconteurs "Broken Boy Soldiers"... they're a side project for Jack White of the White Stripes... and I like WS quite a bit, but The Raconteurs are a slice of rock n roll a la the 70s when rock was good! Straight forward guitar parts and awesome solos... they're kinda like Billy Corgan's failed side project Zwan in that they rock hard and have 2 really talented guitarists who aren't afraid to show off... mmm... so good. Oh btw I got the date wrong on the Pearl Jam album, it comes out next week I think.

Now that its the end of the semester we all need some new music to help us through finals week... I got 2 albums for ya'll... they come out tomorrow and I'll be up to get both... of course I have downloaded them already but the quality lacks... so yeah...
1) Goo Goo Dolls "Let Love In"- they've stepped away from Iris and expanded upon what made Gutterflower great... bit anthems, emotional lyrics, and it's just a damn good album. All the songs are big rock songs... even the ballad at the end 'Become' is a full band song... included is their cover of 'Give a Little Bit' that was on a soundtrack last year. They've come under the radar with this album and it's a good one.
2) Pearl Jam "Pearl Jam" (self titled)- downloaded this one a couple days ago... 12 of the 13 songs are straight forward rock allowing guitarists Mike Mcreedy and Stone Gossard to show off.. in other words... it's good:) Eddie Vedder does what he does best... and yeah... it's good. It doesn't have any weird songs like Bianural did.. it's just a step back to their earlier days of plain rock and roll from the last remaining Seattle-era band.

Random bits...
-had a wonderful spring break out in Tucson with the parents.. it was really all I could have hoped for and wanted... good times with mom and dad, golf, sun, food, shopping... and awesome weather
-on the flight from Tucson-Dallas our pilots were Gilligan and the Real McCoy... literally, the pilot's name was Randy McCoy, and the copilot's name was Bob Denver. Getting off the plane I saw the copilot and he actually resembled the real (and late) Bob Denver.
-i hate Charlotte... I don't belong here, and I'm glad I have a just a little over a year left here. I feel out of place in this city... the pace here is just too slow... i can't stand it... i guess there's some things I will never understand...
-I'm giving a big kick to soda and espresso, I need to get off the reliance caffeine
-My career goals have morphed a bit so to speak... I had been interested in political journalism, but I've had a lifelong passion for history... so I'm really looking into political history as a goal... journalism interested me... but I've simply lost that passion... and my mindset has really changed now that I've changed my focus... and I'm simply happier now.. someday I'd love to work in the research department at a museum or something like that..
-Have an internship lined up working in the archives department at the Charlotte Museum of History.. fitting isn't it:) as such I will surely be here this summer... probably won't take any courses unless there's something really relevant
-Been looking into Grad schools a bit... my top picks right now are the University of Michigan at Flint, and the University of Colorado at Denver
On to hw. peace.

At times like these there's only a few things I can turn to... Yesterday my Great-Aunt Mary passed away at 95, she was the only female blood relative my grandfather (mom's side) had in the US when he came over in the 1930s, Mary with Uncle Charlie raised him and showed Grandpa the ropes in the US, he's pretty upset but pretty chatty, called him earlier to with sympathy. Yesterday the Mother of the Civil Rights Movement, Coretta Scott King passed away at 78, I was in Mrs. King's presence only a couple of months ago, she and the rest of the King family were at the U2 concert I went to in Atlanta.
Those things... friends... and U2

Time for a good old fashioned tell-you-about-my-weekend-and-such post... where to start... it's been interesting.
Friday was a good day, Jackie and I went to Target and bought some stuff for my room- new towels, and a small shelf unit to act as a pantry... it looks good... helps sort out what I have for food and stuff, instead of sticking it all in the bottom drawer of my nightstand/bureau. Went to Mama Fus for dinner, service sucked, their computer was down that transfers orders from the register to the kitchen, so they had to do it manually and peoples orders were wrong all over the place... which in the end really doesn't say much for the people who work the registers and the cooks attempting to read orders.. whatever... I got my food, but Jackie's food and our appetizer was no where to be seen... our server came over about 10 minutes later asking if we were missing something... uh yeah. They were apologetic, but they still weren't really making any extra effort given the situation. After all of that we got caught in the nasty rains that came around 8pm on Friday... not fun. Went to Borders, I got a cd the band Living Things, pretty good, but not as good as the reviews say, its good straight ahead hard rock, but their single is probably the best song on it... boo. Also got a magazine "Science of the Mind" a spiritual magazine that I would have never picked up if not for the cover article "2005 Spiritual Hero of the Year: Bono" Made a good read... talked about his religious side and how his faith directs some of his work... but then has to blatantly mentions that he drinks and partys and such.. yeah... it is a spiritual magazine. Came back to campus and hung out for a while before Jackie left for home.
Saturday was ok. Slept like 10 hours- 2am till about 12pm, got lunch, and by that time it was time to get ready for work. Worked a short mid shift.. 2:15-6:15pm, wound up being till 6:30, we were really busy all day so I stayed a bit after to help clean and make the store pretty for the closing shifts. Good timing thought, as soon as I got off, the womans basketball game was in half time, so I was able to sneek in and hang out with Jackie and drumline for the break and then the second half. Left right before the guys game, back to the room, ate dinner and got ready for bed. Why to bed so early? Well... Jeremy had to open the next morning at work 4:45am!!! Was all good though.. in bed by 9, watched some tv, talked to Jackie on her ride home from the game, and asleep by 11, hours of sleep was sufficient, given the 10 hours the night before lol.
Sunday... woke up at the ungodly hour of 4am to be at the store at 4:45am. Shift started smoothly enough.. can proudly say I had the first drink of East Blvd that day... had a triple grande soy black and white mocha in my hand by 5am so it was all good:) Had a rush from 6-6:30, lots of people getting off 3rd Shift at Carolina's Medical Center. Shift went well overall.. went quickly.. our 8-4pm midshifter called out (she was looking pretty ill on saturday so I'm not too surprised) so we were short a person all day.. but it was ok.. we got busy but the 3 of us: me, Jennifer, Elissa.. 3 of the most veteran employees there, handled it smoothly. Elissa and I have been with Starbucks for about 4 years, Jennifer's been around for a loooong time, mid 1990s I think. Eventually 1:15pm rolled around I headed out. Rested for a few hours and then met up with Jackie for church... yes my readers, you're favorite non-practicing half Jewish-half Catholic went to church! She and I were originally going to meet after mass to go to dinner and hang out, but then she asked and I decided to join her at mass. Was interesting.. and I now have this craving to go to Synagogue one of these Sundays. Went to Frank&Steins for dinner... good little place in the Stonecrest Plaza, kind of a Nathan's ripoff.. but pretty good nonetheless. Went to Borders and looked at some Grad school and scholarship books; got another cd, this one a lot better.. the band We Are Scientists, the best way to describe them- more rudimentary version of The Killers, or a less dancy version of Franz Ferdinand. But either way its a good cd.. and they ripped off a drum pattern from U2 for one song so of course that made me smile sheepishly. Went to bed around midnight.. and woke up around 8 this morning.. have some laundry going right now.. about to head out for some errands- Teeter, Borders to get the new Dave Barry book:) and some other things. Work 5-close tonight.. need to fit homework in there of course.
rock on.

Well... I've got some good news... and some bad news
The bad news is that a really corny joke is about to follow this sentence
The good news is that I just saved a bunch of money on my textbooks by switching to half.com
